How to use Halloween to shine the light of the gospel
Can Christians share the gospel on Halloween without actually celebrating?
Have you ever wondered how to witness to people on Halloween, but still not participate or celebrate it in any way? There is a way to take part as a Christian, yet remain separate from any celebration—by shining the light of the gospel on Halloween. So how do we do it? Let’s get started!

First, let trick-or-treaters know you’re handing out treats
Look for a simple Halloween decoration that gets the message across that trick-or-treaters are welcome. I put up a little pumpkin decoration at our front door that I found at the Dollar Tree—it’s simple but does the trick!

Along with the candy, we be hand out some awesome tracts that share the truth of the gospel. We’ve done this for several years now, and the kids (and sometimes parents!) start reading them while they were still on our porch! 👏
There are several tracts that we like to use. There’s one that looks like a cellphone, one that looks like a fun cartoon million-dollar bill, and another is a gift card-type tract with a link to go watch movies for free. (Yes, it’s legit, try it out!) Here’s what they look like:

This year we’re planning to turn our porch light on before it gets dark so we don’t miss any of the younger kids that might come with their parents before the sun sets.
Some years we have a great turnout of kids, and some years there are fewer kids that come.
But don’t get discouraged if only a few kids come, because every treat bag with tracts received is another child who likely read the gospel message, and what a success that is!
Would you pray that more kids would come this year and that God would soften their hearts to the truth of the gospel? Thanks in advance, my friend. 💛

Wait… isn’t handing out tracts celebrating Halloween?
For many years I believed that Halloween was harmless, but after researching it, studying God’s Word, and hearing testimonies, I realized how mistaken I’d been.
And ya know what? It was tough. Because I kinda like spooky stuff, and I wasn’t ready to admit that Halloween isn’t as innocent as it appears. But the Lord has grown me in that area and is continuing to do so.
So while I’m convicted now (and more obedient now 😅) not to celebrate it, I do believe that God can work good out of anything that’s intended for evil, and I can’t let the opportunity to share the gospel with people who will come right to my door on Saturday evening pass me by.
Because while some Christians may deem handing out a treat and gospel tract as “celebrating” Halloween, ask yourself this…
Is someone coming and knocking on my door and asking for a treat and me sharing the gospel with them participating in an evil thing? A million times no!
Almighty God is Lord of every day, and October 31 is another day we’ve been given to glorify Him, and sharing that gospel is a wonderful way to do just that—it is kingdom work!

Second, the best defense is a good offense
On a related note, I’ve been seeing so many Christians asking for help dealing with spiritual attacks, dreaming of demons, and demonic attacks, etc.
So since we’re in the midst of the Halloween season with so many movies, TV shows, haunted houses, and other Halloween stuff being prominent right now, it’s the perfect time to address this topic.
When Christians reach out for help in dealing with these attacks, here’s the general response I share with them:
First, the spiritual realm is far more real than the tangible. Satan exists, demons exist, and Satan is described in the Bible as the prince of this world and the prince of the power of the air.
He will disguise himself as an angel of light, so as one of Christ’s beloved little sheep 🐑, you must stay in the word of God in order to distinguish your Shepherd’s voice above the voice of the enemy.
Remember that the devil roams around seeking who he can destroy, so stay in the Word and put on your armor!
If you’re not really sure if you’ve been born again, you must decide once for all to surrender your life to Jesus Christ completely. He is the only way to freedom from spiritual attack, bondage to sin, and the evil powers of this world.
When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, only then will you be covered by His blood and evil spirits will no longer have any claim on you, for you will belong to Jesus. 💖
Second, if you’ve already trusted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then you need to seriously take inventory of not only your home and physical objects, but your thought life as well.
What kind of items are in your house, property, vehicle, workplace, etc. — and what things do you watch, read, listen to, etc. — that could be attractive to demons?
This could include horror movies, documentaries about murderers, true crime shows, p0rn, movies with sex scenes, Halloween stuff like ghosts or witches, ouija board, fortune telling, violent video games, ungodly music, New Age or occult objects, or anything else that glorifies worldly things, foul language, etc.
Any of these things or habits are like rolling out a welcome mat for evil spirits into your life. Clear them out. Put on that full armor of God as described in Ephesians 6 and pray throughout your day.
Read the Bible daily. The word of God is powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, it is your weapon of victory against the devil!
Rebuke evil and think on right things—whatever is pure, lovely, right. Submit to God and resist the devil and he must flee in the mighty Name of Christ Jesus.
If it be true, proclaim that you belong to Jesus because you are bought by His Blood, and ask the Lord to rebuke any evil spirits.
Soak yourself in the Word of God and test all teachings, influences, entertainment, EVERYTHING against His Word. Turn from all evil, even just the appearance of evil. 💛
This issue is something that’s rampant in the church today, and we need to be aware of that reality.
Now don’t misunderstand me, by no means do I believe we should live in fear. But we do need to be aware of the enemy, especially around Halloween, otherwise how will we recognize him?

Third, God protects us as we follow Him & share the gospel
These things being addressed, we do need to know how to prepare for battle against the enemy. If I could boil it down to 2 main things, those would be:
- Put on the full armor of God
- Think on right things.
You may never have experienced demonic attack, and I hope that you haven’t.
But it shouldn’t be something that scares you, because remember—Christ defeated sin, death, hell, and Satan on the cross. And in a mighty declaration, He shouted, “Finished!” 💥
As a child of God, Satan can never possess you—you are bought with the precious blood of Christ and you belong to Him!
In fact, the Bible tells us that nothing can snatch us from our Lord’s hand—what an assurance!
But even though Satan cannot possess you, he will try to oppress you at times, especially when we’re surrendering to God.
When God has incredible plans to use you for His awesome glory, you can bet that the devil will not be in favor. So suit up, and remember that the battle is the Lord’s, and He’s already declared victory!

This Halloween I encourage you to use Halloween as the day that God created it to be—another day to glorify Him, and to the opportunity of people coming to your door to share a treat AND a gospel tract. On what the enemy may intend as the darkest of days, let’s shine the light of the glorious gospel and share the good news! 🌟
