Valentine’s Day Bible verses from the book of Psalms

Since the book of Psalms is a collection of songs and poetry, it lends itself to topics of love and emotion. It’s such a beautiful and inspiring book to read, and our hearts can find comfort and solace, and also a clear sense of God’s love for us.

💘 How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!
Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.

Psalm 36:7, NKJV

Aren’t these verses from Psalms the perfect Valentine? How precious is God’s love for us—so much so that we know we can trust Him in all things!

💘 But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious,
Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.

Psalm 86:15, NKJV

What a comfort it is to know that God’s Word gives us assurance that our Heavenly Father is one full of mercy and compassion toward us!

💘 Oh, give thanks to the God of heaven!
For His mercy endures forever.

Psalm 136:26, NKJV

Not only does God have incredibly patience with us and bestows His grace on us, but what a relief to know that His mercy lasts forever!

Another Bible verse Valentine from the Old Testament

This time we look to the prophet Jeremiah and his message from God to the nation of Israel, which would one day extend to the Gentiles—in His perfect timing—offering hope for all people everywhere because of God’s glorious grace of the gospel!

💘 The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.

Jeremiah 31:3, NKJV

I love that phrase “of old” in the verse above. It reminds me of another wonderful passage of scripture from Hebrews that declares He is the same yesterday, today, and forever!

The Lord does not change and we can always count on Him—how amazing and thrilling to comprehend that He loves all people and continues to draw all of us to Himself:

And I, if and when I am lifted up from the earth [on the cross], will draw and attract all men [Gentiles as well as Jews] to Myself.

John 12:32, AMPC

When we see the Old Testament and New Testament aligning and weaving together the overarching message of God’s redemptive plan for people everywhere—it is the greatest Valentine of all eternity!

Valentine’s Day Bible verses from the Apostle John

Did you know that in the Bible, John is referred to as the disciple whom Jesus loved? Why would this not be said of the other disciples—was John more loved than the others? What did he do that made him more special?

The answer is found in this: the person who described John as being the disciple whom Jesus loved was John himself! It’s as if he wrote a Valentine to himself from the Lord when he wrote that statement. 😆

We would do well to embrace that Valentine for ourselves as well, because John was not any more special nor any more loved by Jesus. The difference is that John KNEW how much Jesus loved him! Jesus loves us all equally—it is up to us to accept His love and dwell on Him. ❤️

💘 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

John 13:34-35, NKJV

How amazing it is that love trumps all, especially when others who don’t yet know Christ see our love for each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. What a testimony it is to people when we present a reflection of God’s love!

💘 For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.

John 16:27, NKJV

What a marvelous thought to dwell on—that God loved us so much that He sent His Son to die for us and forgive our sins, and that just because we’ve chosen to love Jesus and have faith in Him, the Father loves us again! What an encouraging thought for Valentine’s Day!

💘 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

1 John 3:1, NKJV

If we ever feel discouraged or left out, put down or even persecuted for our faith in Christ, remember this verse—the world treats us that way because it has done the same to our dear Master. And what hope to cling to in all circumstances, that we believers are called children of God!

💘 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

1 John 4:7-8, NKJV

We are called to love in truth and in spirit, according to Christ and the Word of God. So let us show that kind of love to each other—REAL love that is of mercy and truth!

💘 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1 John 4:9-10, NKJV

How marvelous—love explained! How can we be sure that God really loves us? Here we have the clear answer: that He sent His Son Jesus to give us life through Himself because He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Hallelujah, what a Savior! ❤️

There is no better love to cling to this Valentine’s Day than that of our dear Savior who laid down His life for us.

💘 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

1 John 4:16-18, NKJV

Perfect love, who could possibly be capable of that? Only Christ Jesus! If we have trusted in Him, we can have boldness in the day of judgment through His perfect love accomplished on the cross to save us. We can have no fear of Judgment Day because Jesus has perfected His work of love in us through salvation.

Other Bible verse Valentines from the New Testament

Now let’s look at the last few verses about love from the books of Romans, 1 Corinthians, and Galatians. God’s love towards us is highlighted in these verses, so however you’re feeling about Valentine’s Day, allow these verses to flood your heart with assurance of God’s love and the peace you have with Him through Christ Jesus.

💘 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Romans 5:5, NKJV

The context of this verse is about how adversities that we face strengthen our endurance, and thus our character, and because of that, our hope of salvation.

I like how the NLT translates this verse:

And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

Wow, what an assurance of God’s love for us this Valentine’s Day of love! We will not be disappointed in our hope of salvation, for God loves us so dearly that he has indwelt us with His own Holy Spirit. 💖

💘 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8, NKJV

Wonderful, wonderful! Is there any greater Valentine?! While were sinners, Christ Jesus died for us. He didn’t wait for us to get ourselves together—that’s impossible to do, which is why He came! He loved us before we loved Him, and His death is the epitome of true love.

💘 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13:13, NKJV

But how can love be greater than faith? We need faith in Christ to be forgiven and have eternal life!

Because the root of faith and hope is love. Christ is love. His sacrificial death is love. His triumph over sin and the grave was through love.

Here’s the thing though: it is HIS love that accomplishes it all. We do our best to love as He did, but we are only a dim reflection of His magnificent love, and we find our rest in it!

💘 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Galatians 2:20, NKJV

Our lives are now hid in Christ, and HE is our life! When we were still sinners, we were dead in our trespasses, but thanks to Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins—no longer! We are alive in Christ forevermore, because of His great love for us!
