DIY quick and easy Prayer Board (FREE printable!)

Leave guilt behind and start keeping your promise with this DIY Prayer Board!

It’s happened again. Someone tells you about what they’ve been going through recently, and you tell them you’ll be praying for them. And then you don’t. Because it slips your mind.

Or maybe you heard about “adopting” a ministry worker to pray for, or perhaps your child’s teacher asks you to commit to praying for one student in her class for the whole school year.

But you have to pass because you’re afraid you won’t be faithful in prayer. That’s where I was. But since I created my DIY Prayer Board, I don’t have to worry about it anymore! It’s so simple and takes less than 5 minutes to set up.

Why you need an easy DIY Prayer Board

Since I’ve been using my Prayer Board over the past several months, I’ve been much more faithful about praying for the people that I said I would pray for.

Before I started using mine, I was always reluctant to ask if anyone needed prayer because I was afraid I would forget to pray for them.

Of course, there were times when I’d tell someone I would pray, but I never said it unless I knew I would be diligent to remember and actually follow through.

This is so important. Whatever you do, do not tell someone you’ll be praying for them unless you absolutely will! It’s better to say nothing if you can’t commit.

Having a Prayer Board is super helpful for gathering all your thoughts, your promises, your requests, needs, and concerns all in one place.

It’s allowed me to have a central place for everyone and every situation I need to lift up to our Abba Father. It’s given me so much peace just knowing that everything is all noted and accounted for.

It’s a horrible feeling to know you’ve let someone down, and one of the worst ways is by forgetting to hold someone up in prayer when you said you would. I’ve been so guilty of this in the past. And it’s a terrible feeling.

Having a Prayer Board will give you peace of mind just knowing that you’re not forgetting anyone. And when you have something tangible, it’s easier to pray aloud for people as you see their needs and concerns right there in black and white.

In order to get your Prayer Board going, you’ll need a few items on hand. You might have some of these around your house already like I did, but in case you don’t have everything you need, I’ve included some links to items on Amazon.

The Prayer Board I made uses a cork bulletin board with pushpins, but you can definitely use a magnetic board with little magnets for thumbtacks if you prefer that!

After your DIY Prayer Board is done, commit to faithful prayer

My original Prayer Board was kinda sad-looking, I’ll be honest. I started out just using my marker board to jot down prayers, but soon I had a growing list. As friends began sharing requests with me, I thought: “I’m gonna need a bigger board.” Lol.

So since I’ve been getting requests to get a peek at my Prayer Board, I thought now would be the perfect time to give it a make-over!

Old sloppy & disorganized prayer board:

My “before” board. It did the job, but pretty sad-looking.

I had 2 specific categories on my first board, but I still had a jumble of random thoughts too, so I realized I needed to include a couple more categories to help narrow my focus by groups.

I also had a spaces titled “for Caleb” and “for Liv” where my husband and I could write our own requests or topics we wanted to study for our own personal spiritual growth. I think I’m gonna keep this on my marker board for now, and I’ll probably add a spot on there to list praises and blessings!

New and improved Prayer Board:

My updated Prayer Board! Much more organized and peaceful-looking.

Types of prayer requests for your Prayer Board

My new Prayer Board is used just for requests and needs, and I divided them up into 4 main categories.

Prayers for salvation

Of course, all types of prayer requests are important, but I would argue that this one is the top priority. It is so dear to my heart.

The love of God is so wonderful, and to stop and think that God loved me enough to give up His only Son for me—and that Jesus loved me enough to obey—it just makes me laugh and cry all at the same time.

I’m so thankful for my salvation, for the forgiveness of my sins, for the love of God, and for the fact that I can go directly to Him. I have such gratefulness to know that I’ll be with my Savior Jesus in heaven after this short wisp of earthly life has passed away.

It makes me want it for everyone else!

So prayers for salvation are my first category. This includes everyone from family members to people I’ve never even met.

Prayers for healing

My next category is healing. I feel like so many prayers fall under this category. Really, I think every single prayer could be classified as a prayer for healing—spiritually, emotionally, physically, mentally, relationally, and the list could go on and on!

But on my Prayer Board, healing refers to bodies and hearts. I pray for broken relationships to be healed, hearts that are broken from loss to be mended, and more.

Prayers for provision

The third category on my Prayer Board is provision, and I’ve noticed that I don’t have all that many requests that fall in this group. I wonder if sometimes we’re afraid to ask God for more.

I was reading just this morning this verse from Zechariah:

Ask the Lord for rain
In the time of the latter rain.
The Lord will make flashing clouds;
He will give them showers of rain,
Grass in the field for everyone.

Zechariah 10:1, NKJV

Our God is a loving provider! We need to begin asking Him to supply our needs and even our desires. He will bring the rain!

Prayers for protection

This is the last group on my Prayer Board. And it’s another one that has very few names and requests on it.

It’s so easy to think of lost people we know that need the Lord, and as we know all too well, there are always people in need of healing. But protection is something we should be focusing on, too.

The Bible tells us that Satan is the prince of this world. Just take a second to stop and think about that. He’s always roaming about seeking whom he can destroy.

That’s why it’s so important to lift up our brothers and sisters in prayers of protection. The devil will attack whoever he can, and he seeks to shut us down and discourage us, to keep us centered on ourselves so that we won’t get in his way.

My friend, GET. IN. HIS. WAY. Pray for protection for your family, your friends, the body of Christ, and persecuted Christians around the world in places that are hostile to the gospel message.

Ask the Lord to rebuke the devil and counter his attacks in prayer. Pray prayers of protection.

You’ve got your Prayer Board, but do you need help knowing how to get started in prayer?

While getting your Prayer Board set up is an amazing first step, it’s just that, because just having it won’t make much of a difference if you don’t know how to pray. While it seems to come naturally to some people, not everyone has had a prayer role model in their life to learn from. If you need help knowing how to pray or if you’re even praying in a way that God will acknowledge, these resources will help. 💛
