This recipe is great because it’s quick, it’s simple, and you’ve probably already got everything for it in your pantry, so it’s an easy go-to when you NEED something chocolatey.
And you know what else is wonderful about this chocolate fudge mug cake? It’s super affordable. Have you ever seen those individual microwave cake mixes at the store? They’re not cheap and you only get 2-4 little pouches.
This only takes about 2 minutes longer to mix the ingredients together, and it’s a MUCH more frugal option! Budget-friendly is always something I’m conscious of, because we wouldn’t be able to indulge in these gooey mug cakes otherwise!
I love to make one of these bad boys when I’m sitting at home enjoying a movie, or on a rainy day, or—oh my goodness—when I’m watching one of those baking shows.
My husband kept asking me to make him one all the time, so I finally taught him how to do it. LOL.
Here’s the recipe, it’s super easy. Scroll down for an easy, printable version!
2 Tbsp. salted butter
2 Tbsp. water
¼ tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt
2 Tbsp. cocoa
¼ C. sugar
¼ C. flour
1 Tbsp. milk
1. Melt butter in your chosen mug in the microwave. Cook for 10 seconds at a time so butter won’t burn.
2. Stir in water, vanilla, and salt.
3. Add cocoa and stir until smooth. Make sure to scrape around the edges and bottom of the mug.
4. Add sugar and stir.
5. Add in flour and stir until smooth. Again remember to scrape the edges and bottom of the mug. The mixture will be thick.
6. Pour in milk and stir until completely combined.
7. Microwave for 40 seconds. If the mixture is still liquidy, microwave longer for 15-second increments until cakey around the edges. A fudgy consistency in the middle is perfect if you like more of a lava cake.
8. Allow cake to cool for a few minutes and enjoy! (Don’t forget to add sprinkles!)
